D stepped silently out into the night. The girl's father had still not returned, and she didn't know where he had gone. She was already asleep in her bed, and D decided that he would go out and practice with his new blade. If he knew anything, it was the value of being prepared.
The Vampire Hunter walked through the town, searching for a proper place. The area had little in the way of woods around, so that was out. Perhaps there was some training facility nearby he could attend. He wandered around, looking for such a place. It only took him perhaps half an hour to find one. The place had a large sign saying "Han's 24 hour gym". "Huh, that's convenient.", said the voice from D's left hand. D simply ignored it and entered the building.
"Welcome, sir, to the finest training facility this side of Mysidia! Tell me, what are you in the mood for today? Perhaps a little weight lifting?", said the cheerful man at the desk. "Do you have a place to practice swordsmanship?" "Why, yes, of course! Just go down the hall to my left. You will see a sign, you can't miss it!" D walked past the man, ignoring him. Sure enough, what the man had said was true. There was a large set of double doors with a sign above them saying "Weapons Room 1: Swords". D pushed the door open gently and walked in. There were several people in the room attacking wooden targets with their weapons. A few men were sparring with blunted weapons, and a large man was sitting by watching everyone's progress. It seemed he was the trainer. "Hello there newcomer! Please, make yourself at home here! Don't worry too much about destroying targets...the city of Mysidia pays for them. In this complex, we train any who wish it. It's a harsh land we live in, and it's up to all of us to help fight off the beasts now and again." D unsheathed his katana from his back and squared off with a wooden target. His sword hit the dark wood...and bounced off, making only a chip. D grunted in surprise. This was some tough wood...either that, or he was much weaker than he had even suspected. D struck a few more times experimentally, getting a feel for the blade.
OOC: Starting Basic Training...will learn Weapon Novice - katana, and masamune. Will learn the limit flash kick for lack of a better move.

D's sword flashed in the pale candle light. He wove complicated patterns in the air, too fast for a normal human to follow. Deep in concentration, D didn't notice Rose enter the room. She stood in the doorway, watching him. His blade went faster and faster, becoming a silver flash of light. Finally he stopped, panting. "Well done D." D jumped, whirling on the girl. His blade came up and D adopted a defensive posture. Noting it was just her, D sheathed his sword. "You're a bit jumpy there. You need to calm down." "It comes with the job." "Are you going to come eat dinner?" "No, thank you." "Ah well, I will see you later." With that, the girl turned and left the room. D unsheathed both of his swords and contemplated them. He put away his katana and swung his old blade experimentally. It was quite heavy still, and he wasn't sure he could wield it effectively yet. Still, He tried a few experimental slashes with it. He was getting better, but he knew he was still far from being as good as he used to be. With a sigh, he sheathed that blade as well and sat on the bed. Training was OK, but he knew that to get back his former skill he needed to fight.
D checked the blades strapped to his back carefully, then stepped out the door. Rose was asleep in her bed, blissfully unaware of D's actions. He was going to find her father if it killed him. "You still aren't fully recovered you know. I bet you are only half as fast as you used to be...will that be enough?", said the voice from D's hand. "I don't know, but I can't wait any longer." "Hah, you're getting soft. If your father knew about this he-" "Shut up!", said D. His normally soft voice was harsh with anger. Taking the hint, the voice grew silent. D continued on his way down the road. His steps were slow and steady, but the city in the distance seemed to grow larger much more rapidly than it should.
A little over an hour later, D was walking through the city of Mysidia. He traveled through alleys and aged roads of the city, alert for anything that shouldn't be there. The roads were deserted at this time of night. "This place is wonderful! Can't you feel the energy in the air? This place is run by magic, not science!" "Indeed.", replied D. It was true, he could feel it. His skin was tingling in the raw power of the place. Still, something seemed subtly wrong with the power field. He couldn't tell exactly what it was, but he didn't like it. He could feel the vampire half of him reveling in it...it made him uneasy. "So, where should we go first? We don't have any proof there is even anything wrong here...though it does feel like us. Still, it might not concern us." A few minutes later, D found himself at Mysidia's huge hospital. He walked in the emergency room door and looked around. There were hardly any people there that late at night, but he managed to find a young nurse going over reports. "Excuse me. I am looking for a doctor." The young woman looked up and D from her papers with an exasperated expression on her face. "I hardly have time to tell you the obvious...", she began. Then, she looked into D's eyes. Her expression faded from annoyed to dreamy in a matter of seconds. "We only have one doctor on duty..." "I'm looking for some who came from a nearby village. He said he was coming here to check out some suspicious bite marks." "Oh, him. Yes, he was here a few days ago. He was looking at one of our patients...but he left. I don't know where he went." "Please, show me the patient with the marks." The nurse stood up and walked down a nearby hallway. Numbered rooms lined the passage, and it smelled of chemicals. D could feel the healing enchantments placed on the rooms through his skin. His vampire half writhed in pain, he D held his composure. It would only get worse from here. The nurse stopped in front of a room. "The patients suffering from the strange wounds are all in rooms 123-145. Is there anything else?" "No, just return to your reports and forget about this." "Yes...", she said. The woman turned and walked away back toward the desk.
D slowly opened the door of the room, wincing inwardly at the pain cause in his vampire half from the enchantments. He stepped into the room and looked around. There was a table, some chairs, and a bed. In the bed was a man. He appeared to be in his early twenties. D moved the covers out of the way and studied the man's neck. Sure enough, there were two puncture wounds. The man's eyes were closed. D put his hand to the man's face and slowly opened his eye lids. The man's eyes didn't focus and held a glazed look. D closed the again and put his left hand to the man's neck. "Is it one of them?", he said. His voice was pained...the magic was getting to him. "I can't tell. The healing enchantment should have closed it by now, but the wound is ignoring it. The shape is different from what I am used to...but it does seem to have been made by one of the Nobility. Still...there is something no quite right about it. I don't like it." D glanced once more around the room and spotted an object on the table. He walked over to it and picked it up. It was a match book from some sort of club. Presumably, it belonged to the victim. There was no other sign of the doctor. D opened the door, walking quickly from the room. When he was clear of the door, he breathed a sigh of relief. "Hum, perhaps we should check on this club. There might be a clue there." "Yes, I think so.", said D.

D walked down the silent night streets of Mysidia, looking for a cold trail. Everything he had tried so far had failed, and he was running out of options. By now the girl's father was surely dead if he was involved in a mess with Vampires. D had spent several nights wandering the city, looking for abandoned warehouses. So far, all of them had been empty. Well, empty of all but a few rats and a bunch of boxes anyway. With a sigh, D stopped walking and leaned up against a nearby wall. "Looks like this isn't working after all.", came the voice from D's hand. "I know. I need...some other way of doing this." By this time, D had recovered most of his former powers. D's vampire half could still feel the disturbance in the magical aura of the city. It called to him. "I don't like this, but I have no choice it seems.", said D. The last few words were spoken with much difficulty. As he spoke, fangs began to grow from D's mouth. No one was around to see it at the time, but if they had they surely would have been horrified. D's vampire half surfaced in him, turning him in to a blood thirsty beast. "I...can feel it...", he mumbled. Without saying another word, D began to walk through the city. It seemed as if some magical presence was tugging at him, and he wasn't resisting. After a few minutes of walking, D found himself at a mansion. The call was stronger here, practically begging him to come inside. The creature that D had become sniffed the air. He smelled blood nearby...and it made him hungry. So very hungery... "No!", yelled D. He grabbed his head and doubled over on the sidewalk, fighting the horrible strength of his vampire half. It wanted to kill. "I will not become a murderer!" When D finally stood up, his face was normal again. Sweat dripped down his face, and he appeared almost weak. He looked at the mansion, and nothing about it seemed out of the ordinary. It looked like any other richly built building, and didn't even seem particularly ominous. Still, D had felt the call from inside. There was a vampire here, no doubt about it. D leaped over the gate in a single bound and walked up to the front door. He knocked politely at it, waiting for an answer.
